5 reasons every BJJ player should eat avocados (No. 3 is huge)

Okay, I’m gonna let you guys in on a little secret…Avocado’s are a SUPER FOOD that not everyone in the BJJ world is paying attention to!

Below are 5 reasons why every BJJ player should eat avocados…with a sweet video on how to keep that left over avocado from turning brown!

1) Preventing arthritis!

Anyone who has been training in Grappling for any real amount of time has some sort of arthritis issues, recent studies have shown that their are benefits to eating the extracts from avocado to reduce symptoms of arthritis, or osteoarthritis as the professionals would call it.

2) a buddy to cut weight with!

Avocados are considered a weight loss ‘Friendly’ food (as long as they aren’t pilled onto a chicken cheese chimichunga at 3am…lol

Studies have shown that people who eat a meal including an avocado feel more satisfied and have less of a desire to over eat for up to 5 hours! Avocados are kind of a natural appetite suppressant, which makes it easier to consume less calories.  The added high fiber, low carb mix of avocados also help promote weight loss and general health of the systems.

3) I need my vision!

While cataracts and macular degeneration might help an elderly person secure one of this new medical marijuana passes being handed out like trick or treat candy in phoenix…having vision issues is counter productive to a brazilian jiu jitsu player.  Avocados are loaded with antioxidants including Lutein and Zeaxanthin which are vital for eye health and preventing cataracts and macular degeneration.

4) I can’t afford to cramp on my triangle choke!

Avocados are loaded with Potassium, in fact, they have more potassium then the notorious post workout banana! Potassium is one of those supplements most people do not get enough of.  While supporting healthy blood pressure levels, potassium also works with sodium and water to help hydrate your organs and muscles for optimal performance.

5. Cholesterol is to high…lol

Cholesterol has been shown to be lowered by eating avocados in various studies.  Avocado can improve heart disease risk factors like Total HDL and LDL while improving triglycerides too.

…bottom line. Avocados are worth buying, and they are worth putting into the diet for any competitive grappler :)
